I hope then the fog will lift and I will start to discover hope again.

My depressing reproductive history

Jan 2006: let's throw away the pill, if we get pregnant, great!

Feb 2006: shocked that not pregnant

April 2006 - August 2007: trying, sometimes actively, sometimes passively

August 2007: visit to GP. Referral to public gynaecologist. Waiting list for appt: 6 months

Feb 2008: appt with gynaecologist. Suspects endometriosis. Booked for laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and dye studies. Waiting list for surgery: 6 months.

July 2008: first laparoscopy. Extensive endometriosis. Small uterine polyp. Dye studies normal. Partner's sperm analysis normal.

September 2008: Follow up appt with gynae. "I'm sure you'll get pregnant spontaneously." I request referral to IVF anyway. Waiting list for IVF: 3 months.

October 2008: Get married.

December 2008: First IVF appointment. Scheduled for bloods and consent process. Waiting list for IVF treatment: 6 months.

May 2009: First IVF cycle. Get ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. 30 eggs collected, 20 fertilised, 10 blastocysts frozen. Due to OHSS have to wait 3 months for transfer.

July 2009: Find out about birth of nephew on Twitter. Family, having avoided me for six months say, "we didn't want to upset you."

August 2009: Frozen transfer (1 blastocyst). Pregnant!

October 2009: Spotting, miscarriage, D&C

December 2009: Frozen transfer (1 blastocyst). BFN.

January 2010: Frozen transfer (2 blastocysts). BFN.

March 2010: Revisit with IVF doctor. He is surprised, "Why are you not pregnant?". Diagnoses recurrent implantation problem. Suggests another laparoscopy, extensive bloods, karyotype.

March 2010: Laparoscopy. More endometriosis found, L tube occluded. Otherwise normal. Found to be hyperthyroid (Graves disease), the rest of the bloods are normal. Also see fertility acupuncturist. Think he is more loopy than I am.

April 2010: Awaiting karyotypes (seems to be taking forever - nearly two months!) and regrouping with IVF doctor. Hoping for fresh IVF cycle May 2010 although suspect that things will be delayed for further months while the thyroid problem is sorted. How patient can one person be?
